My Ibiza should be sold this weekend and I have offered to tax it for the guy rather than having him faffing about (he's paying me for the tax btw)

I have the car on sorn as I have another car I use

How easy is it to unsorn the car and retax it

Is it just a matter of going on to the DVLA site, typing in the number off the V5 and thats it?

easy enough to tax a car with it being on sorn, just go to the online site and click apply for a tax disc now. it will ask for the log book reference and there you go your sorted

    Thanks Rob :)

Reason for asking is I'll only tax the car when I am sure the guy wants it.

He's coming to look at it on Saturday and if he likes it he'll be taking it with him on the day.

Didn't want any last minute hold ups

  10. I'd use the old delaer trick and say you havn't had time.
That way if he pulls out of the dael you havn't taxed a car you won't use.

Gary - I don't see how you can tax it on line and then drive it straight away! - You need the disc to display - which will arrive 'within 14 days' or something... There is a serious offence of 'failure to display' which they will use even if the disc is on the vehicle but not able to be read clearly for some reason!

Correct me if I'm wrong... ?

When I have re taxed my car online/via phone the disc took 2 days to arrive.

It is also my understanding that as long as the vehicle is taxed there will be no action taken if not displayed. The Police hav direct links to the DVLA database so can check straight away.

The DVLA allow 14 days grace on things like this

The only problem with doing that is that it will be sent to the registered keeper, which will be you, you will then have to post it to him or he will have to collect it from you, Is he far away?

    I'll correct you Mick :D

As long has you have applied for your tax disc on line,it is recorded by the DVLA and the police also have access to this data,it would'nt be my fault if it was delayed in the post.

Also,in repsonse to another question on here.

It makes it easier for me to tax it in my name as I curently hold all the relevant documetation.it will come to my house, but I'll just post it on to him :)

    Option 1

    Get in the car
    Drive into town
    Find a parking space :(
Queue at the post office :(
Yippe, I now have a small round piece of paper I can stick in my window. :D
    Go back to car
    Pay for parking :(
Go home or back to work

    Option 2

Log onto DVLA website and pay for a tax disc :)
Open the enveope that comes through the door a few days later :)
Yippe,I have a small round piece of paper I can stick in my windscreen

Once a tax disc has been applied for online & is in the system you can legally drive around for 5 days without a valid disc and thats it.

I prefer the disc done online, I like it printed not scribbled on by some post office muppet
