Probably a daft question, but how important is wheel balancing? The reason i ask is,i,ve just bought new wheels and some of the balance weights have fell off, there not on the car yet,but when i went in my garage this morning some of the weights were just lying on the carpet.I,m not planning time attack/trackdays/rwyb,i just use it as everyday car, should i take them back to get balanced again(its a hassle)or not bother?

On the rears you can get away with not been balanced, on the fronts you will notice it straight away

you might not feel a vibration but your bearings will know about it

    You'll notice alright

My first car a Mk.2 Escort had horrible sticky things stuck to all the wheels, so being naive, cleaned all wheels, took me a full day to remove all the stuck on 'bits' and clean the wolfrace alloys

Then went for a drive ~~~~~~

You live and learn eh!

The purpose of my statement was, if I had purchased 4 wheels and one of them had the weights missing I would just chuck it on the rear where it will make absolutely no difference unless it was MILES out, I say this not because I have read a book but because the rears on my car now havent been balanced and I never use to balance the rears on my race bikes.

However the front is a totally different story, get an unbalanced wheel on the front of your car and you will soon realise this.

As for the bearings, they put up with pot holes and daily driving hazards and take all this in there stride. simples

as he asked is it worh getting them re-balanced. for the sake of £10 is it worth the risk of leaving them as they are or get them re-balanced. £10 vs risk of uneven tyre wear and causing prolonged stress on the bearings easy choice in my book  i always balance every wheel

I,ll stick with this answer i think  ,it,ll be free anyway as they shouldnt have dropped off.The problem was i dont know which wheel or wheels they came off as i was moving them around waxing them, and then noticed the weights on the floor,so they could have been off any wheel, best be on the safe side and get them all checked even if it does cost me a tenner,it sounds like it,ll be money well spent, thanks again for the advive
