Cheers guys, today was always going to be "tactical" but in the end a knackered 4th gear sorted all that out
thats a big subject right there mate, to run in that class.. about £300 to get my licence upgraded, as far as tech regs are concerned the car is ready. To compete for wins? it looks like Marc Kemp is almost in another league and continues to move forward faster than most, however I am guessing he will be moving up to Pro. If he does then I have to consider the existing guys, can I catch them on there existing pace, probably, are they going to stand still over winter? doubt it? can I develop my car in greater strides than these guys plus new entry's that I do not know about... possibly?? whats needed > All new suspension, engine restrictions found and corrected, mapping on VP import, new (sequential?) gearbox, aero package greatly improved, practice and tuition, so guessing all that will cost at least £500 We will find out though
Given your current postion in the championship and the obvious capabilities of you and your car is this it for you know are you a time attack regular or just gonna go as far as possible until you run out of money Or are you hoping for a full paid drive in some form of motorsport btcc or alike i know its a long way in the future but you must have a plan
Also lee the cars in the class above you didn't Sean to have as much going on body wise as you did ! Apart form that Elise ! The scoobies looked stock !
cheers guys, the plan now is to firstly try and win this championship whilst planning for next year if I am lucky enough to win, next year plan is to go Club Pro, those guys honestly really are proper quick, I believe I may have the potential to get a win, but it honestly would not surprise me if I was only coming in top 5 at best, those guys are "really" quick. Once I have reached the stage were the car is equal in all areas, good suspension, aero, brakes and so on the plan is to just carry on having fun, eventually I hope to win Club Pro championship and move in to Pro where your up against everyone... RCM and the likes, I know I will never have the talent to match these guys never mind the car, so at that point it will be just having fun BTCC is way out of my league, never mind finances I am talking driver ability, I know I am an ok amateur driver but certainly no more than that. In the mean time as long as things keep going well keep watching this space I have just had a call from Steven Darley of SD Motorsport, there is a JDM gearbox already sat waiting for my car to arrive > I will be out at TOTB next week how about that for a team boss
Previously I would have agreed, but check out Samsonas gearboxes, about €9,500 for a sequential box... I have already spoken to them
Exactly what I discovered when I jumped out of karts into single seater hillclimbing when I was younger and that's nowhere near BTCC. You can set fast times, you can be quick but the professional drivers are absolutely amazing. They don't just have the natural ability, they have more track time, more dedication and then that little bit extra that you just can't describe. Still it's bloody good fun having a quick car and pitting your wit against others on the track!
NYC was my aim till my dad did a runner with the money ! I did super one in karts until I grew and the likes of Lewis, jenson , Luke Hines , Garry paffet didn't ! I then jumped into 85cc gearbox karts then formula c160 - a heave weight class where I competed in the c160 callange - won that. I then did the winter series in the new at the time clip cup, then my dad buggered off so that stopped ! I've been toying with the idea of doing something but this weekend has proven its about money more than driver ability and I don't want to be getting into that !
Prior to this subaru lark I was racing 1000cc motorbikes back in 2001>2004 so have that bit of experience to lean on, thought I was doing well on the bikes until I went out with some others guys that people have heard of, ass truly kicked!! Any form of motorsport is expensive and as soon as you enter, the discussion about money soon follows. To win at any level takes a number strengths, its getting it all together with a touch of ability and a touch of luck to add to that which may help you get some wins.
mmm? not really. There are a number of rules that are there at the start of the year that we all have to work to, if at some point during the year based on your performance the rules become frustrating I think you have to take it on the chin, thats the same with all racing formulas. I believe the rules are set out to be fair, its only a set of circumstances that could not be foreseen that then make them seem unfair, but at the same time its easier afterwards to say what is not fair, to be the person having to write the rules, cover all bases and then stand by them must be a very difficult job. What lot of people like about Time Attack is the lack of rules, this allows the cars to be quite extreme, but at the same time people then want more rules to make things more fair, as soon as you start on that path you then start to exclude certain cars from certain classes because of the restriction so then they have to move up a class. Then they are in a class that in other ways is to extreme for there car... all this and we have not discussed driver experience or ability? At the end of the day its an ameature sport, modify your car and come and have ago and have fun? if you want to win fill your boots and go for it!! Its great the way the after market tuning scene and Time Attack have found a place where they can display there parts on stands, show cars and then out on track all in one arena 8) If your thinking of joining in I would say go for it, if there are cars more developed than your willing to do, dont forget your previous experience and ability will more than likely shine through versus ameature drivers. Lee.
