Waiting for delivery of a set of 17" 02 WRX alloys, do I need to tell my insurance company? As I see it, its not a modification as they aren a 3rd party product and 17"s would have been optional extras from new one way or another. The point is I dont want to pay my insurance company anymore money. What do I do? D
Tell em - theyll duck out of paying a claim if you don . Unless of course you thought they were standard when you bought the car [][]
is that a defence? They are subaru wheels, but my car is a 2000 model, so they wouldn have been available then. Its not like they ask for explicit details and photos when asking what car it is. Its only a sport, but what would they know?
As Chris says It is highly advisable that you tell them, you may be surprised how little extra they will charge. Mine were about an extra £15 per year. Is it really worth NOT telling them for that amount?
mine didnt ask what sort-just wether std or aftermarket,so declared as aftermarket-no xtra cost[] some are real anal and will want to know if yer fitting different to std size though,so best to inform them or risk em wriggling out of a payout[]
Also check out if your insurance covers replacement of the mods like-for-like, or if declaring them just validates the insurance and any replacements will be OE parts. The later will be cheaper (or free in some cases) but obviously no good if youve spent a lot on mods.
well said, will ave to check that-wasnt/isnt there a couple of companys around that specialise in cover for heavily modded cars??????
Surely they e actual subaru wheels they e classed as optional extras and they wouldn know what the car had on from new. Ill declare anyhoo, but I WILL make sure they e covered like for like. Ill just say the new 15" won fit my model of car and i didn have an option.
When someone hit me in the red Scooby, the insurers sent someone out to look at the car. Mine had new OZs on them, they didn notice a thing and still paid out []
By putting on different wheels the Insurers are going to question whether your car looks more appealing to a would be robber.[xx(] If it was me I wouldn say a thing and if you were ever asked, just say they were on the car when you bought it and you thought they were standard on that model.[]
Ok then, Phone your insurance company and tell them you are thinking of changing the alloys, would it make a difference ?? Simple as Dave []

Don we have any insurance workers on this site?

Why dont you just ring up your insurers and ask them.[]
They are more interested in things that make it more nickable - e.g big wings and things that make it go faster inc backboxes [B)]
If you have added anything over and above what they are insuring and you don tell them, those parts are not covered and they have the right to cancel the policy.
