    Hi,

I got a problem :? two of my dust caps are stuck on (cheapo metal ones)

I've tried wd40 and that didnt work :( I've tried holding the valve with pliers and turning the cap with another set of pliers that didnt work either :(

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

this is a common problem with the cheap ones  The only way i found is to take car to a tyre specialist and get them to put in new valves for you .

I've had this in the past too, new valves is the only solution if they are stuck fast

you need to use some grease or vaseline on the threads to stop this happing again, or just use plastic ones ;)

i had 3 stuck once and all i used was 2 pairs of pliers :)
one just below dust cap and one on dust cap and twisted gently and hey presto no more cheap dust caps with no damage to valve stems ;)

I had it also during the snow, had all 4 stuck solid, had to grip valve with pliers and undo the cap with a socket, but all 4 valves are leaking now, need them all replacing

Filed mine (very carefully)with an electric file then squashed them a bit and they came off easy.

Along shot here but try soaking them by using cotton wool soaked in coca cola and tape them on to the valves .Leave for a few hors and see what happens :?:

    COKE

    1. In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.
    2.

You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.

    3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the 'real thing' sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
    stains from vitreous china.

    4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

    5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals:

Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
    away the corrosion.

    6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

    7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil,

    Allowing the drippings to mix
with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

#8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
    windshield.

    FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
Contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
Engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

If they are good ones they make you forget what your problem was in the first place.

This is the best way i have found to deal with these .,,,ie my experience.

get a dremel type tool with a cutting disc on, carefully cut down the length of the cap, it doesn't really matter if you slightly catch the threads of the valve but try not too, then use a flat thin broad bladed screwdriver and open up this slot you made with the dremel, the cap will now pop right off, replace cap with a plastic one or if using a metal cap get ones with the plastic insert.

I had this during the snow period , all 4 got stuck solid, took them off with mole grips and a 10mm socket, but wrecked all the valves, so you may as well just go straight to a tyre place and have them replaced. think the word is oxidisation

Well I tried the coca cola trick last night and had no joy :(

So looks like new valves for me :?

    Is this costly?

Just nip down to your local tyre center - up to a tenner a wheel - os the tyre has to come of each each wheel to change the valve.

They may have a trick or 2 up their sleeve yet - you dont know
