Skid Pan

Discussion in 'General LADS chat' started by Scooby Towers, Mar 19, 2012.

  1. A work mate is looking for skid pan tuition that's available within approx 50 miles of Preston (one that uses normal cars – not the cradle version).

Does anyone know of such a pan and have contact details for hiring it out etc?

The only one I know of Chris is the MIRA one near Nuneaton/Rugby, a little further than 50 miles from Preston though :(

Oulton may be worth a call Chris, going back a few years ago they use to teach drifting there, cant say I have seen it whilst attending car events though?

There use to be one in stockport, the buses use it. I did a coarse when I first started driving.

Remember my Escort being covered in gunk. Not sure if its still there

The drift course at Oulton is good. It is a very tight twisty rally style stage, all Tarmac, but a low grip surface that they keep wet all the time. Very slippy.
The only problem is that it is a narrow strip of Tarmac through a field, so when you lose the car you often end up on the grass.
It was £150 for a full day, using your own car.
Good fun and learnt loads about car control, all pretty safe at low speed.
Would go again if anyone else fancies it.

The Police used to have a "proper" Skid pan in Hutton, Preston, not sure if it is still there or if you can get access to it.

Ive used the Lancashire County Council (road safety) skid pan in Blackburn but that was a few years ago, I don't know if it's still open.
