    hi,
can anyone help me with this its driving me mad....
i have an 04 wrx that in the last few days has developed a weird burning rubber smell from the engine, around the top rad hose.....it went in for an oil and filter change and the guy noticed it didn't have a coolant reservoir , so he put one on ,also he tightened the alternator belt as it sqeaked once in there ,,now when it warms up i'm getting a rubbery hot smell from around the top hose ,,,cant see anything catching ,,but never smelt this before having work done,,,any ideas ?...........i checked the alternator belt and its tight as f**k,,could this cause the smell? should i loosen it off a touch?
it's not overheating at all, heaters all work fine, thermostat and fan kick in when they should.
    thanks

  2. Sound like the belt has been over tightened - loosen it off as there should be a small amount of play in the tension.
